Project 13

Brought to you by: Fondation Beyeler

Game type: Single-Player game

Duration: 10-40 minutes

Used by: Beyeler Foundation

Designed to target young teenagers (an often hard-to-reach group), this game presumes that a secret society of 13-year-old artists are the key to the museum's success. Each year, the undercover "Project 13" team must recruit the next group of magical 13-year-olds through a series of mysterious challenges.

  • This was a “taskmaster-type” game where we gave students prompts and supplies for art-making and had them take pictures of the results.

Players start by receiving a mysterious letter from the museum inviting them to participate in the challenge. Then, they are given postcards with a series of art-making challenges with specific instructions and limited materials, such as "draw what is shown in the window, but use only three colors." to stimulate creativity. Players who complete all the challenges will find out more about the secret society.

    • Ability to print and distribute paper guides or booklets

    • A mysterious envelope

    • A letter from the Deputy Director of Magical Projects

    • Challenge cards

    • Any materials we'd like them to use.

    • Good for classes and large groups

    • Older children and teens

  • If you’d like to build your own version of Lucky 13, you can see our design process here.
